As a family of wildlife enthusiasts, my parents and I are always on the lookout for interesting new birdwatching spots, offbeat wildlife parks, and any opportunities to sight the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger.
This never ending search led us to – Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary – just 2.5 hours drive away from our home in Corbett, Uttarakhand.

We were so surprised to find this gem of a spot, hiding in plain sight in our own backyard.
Unlike the popular Corbett National Park, here at Nandhaur, – you don’t have to wait months to book a safari or FRH, you don’t have to ‘share’ your quaint safari experience with 30 other jeeps, you dont have to spot wildlife in large groups, you don’t have to feel like you are in an urban jungle – there is no madness or chaos – just pure nature.
At Nandhaur, you can enjoy wildlife and jungles in pure peace knowing you are the only safari vehicle entering a specific zone at that time.
Reminded me of how Corbett was a few decades ago.
Our Experience of Visiting Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary for the Very First Time

Honesty, when we first entered the park, it looked more than a village than a wildlife reserve. This disappointed me a little as I was expecting to stay inside deep lush green forests.
However, our first safari changed my mind completely. Plus we got to go in a bad ass Yodha 4×4 open vehicle.

I could hear the chirping of birds all around, spotted several Sambhar deer and monitor lizards, showcasing how ‘alive’ the jungles were.

Plus, tall Sal trees lined both sides of the narrow roads, making it perfect for jungle lovers like us.
We also saw many pug marks, and we are aware of high density of Leopards in the area – though the chances of sighting Tigers are also very high, especially in peak summer months.
There is a tree house in the middle of the jungles where you are allowed to sit all day if you would like.

The park also makes for an excellent habitat for The Great Indian Hornbill, which is one of my favorite birds.
We found out through local guides that there are several endemic bird species that would be lifers for us, so I always know we will be going back to stay longer.
Where to Stay at Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary
Since its an offbeat park, there are not many options and FRH is quite difficult to book. However, there are some nice options to stay in the village and our two favorite ones are listed below.
Nandhaurgarh Palace – Luxury Stay

This newly opened property – Nandhaurgarh Palace, is an absolute gem inside the park. You can enjoy a lavish luxury palatial stay in one of its cozy rooms, enjoy a swim in the in-house pool, and amazing food round the clock.
Nandhaur Blissful Homestay – Budget Stay

This cute little homestay is just perfect for a small family or group of friends. You can enjoy organic homely meals, live entertainment, playful little puppies, smiling hosts, and comfortable rooms.
Even though it is a budget homestay, all amenities are easily available, and the staff goes out of its way to ensure your comfort.
Convinced you need to visit the gorgeous Nandhaur wildlife sanctuary? Check it out now, before it gets too crowded.
