The picturesque archipelago which forms the island of Langkawi is situated on the Northwestern side of Malaysia. Said to be a one-time haven of pirates and buccaneers, Langkawi today serves as an idyllic retreat for tourists from every corner of the planet.
I instantly discovered during my recent short visit to this unspoilt and rugged destination about the irresistible charms and combination of cultural and natural attractions the place had on offer. After experiencing exciting outdoor activities, I decided to end the visit with a Sunset Cruise on the Andaman sea operated by none other than Tropical Charters.
About Tropical Charters
Alex, the CEO of Tropical Charters, was indeed my most genial host for the evening as he related his passion for creating affordable cruise opportunities for each and everyone to experience, at least once in a lifetime if not more. For starters, I was informed that Tropical Charters was the one and only fully licensed and accredited charter boat company operating out of Langkawi, and that really says a lot when it comes to passenger safety and welfare.
With a fleet of seven fully-fitted different class of boats, visitors had a wide option to go on private cruises, island hopping, organizing team bonding events on board to visiting the nearby Thailand mainland of Koh Lipe by regular ferry services. The most sought after and popular trip was without doubt the daily three hour sunset dinner cruise, which offered a mesmerizing view of the island, culminating in fading light on the tranquil waters of the Andaman sea.
Experiencing a Sunset Cruise in Langkawi
As soon as I was escorted on board their signature vessel “Seasation”, I immediately realized I was onto something special. She was brought from Australia to Langkawi by Alex and has stayed there ever since. Drifting out of the Langkawi resort world jetty, perched conveniently on the top deck, taking in the surrounding views, and listening to lively music gave a really incredible feel of the environs. The friendly crew were always on hand to answer questions and keep guests entertained and the free flowing drinks and cocktails at the bar ensured all guests were in high spirits.
The maintenance crew of Arif and Naufal regaled the guests with stories of the nearby sights, while Izzat and Faiz were busy preparing the BBQ dinner for the sixty odd people on board. Chik and Farah were always on their toes serving drinks on the two bars at the top and lower deck respectively. All this time Captain Hassan diligently steered the boat between the islands, while inviting interested guests to have a go of the steering wheel. Everyone on board had a chance to don a life vest and take a dip on the side with the ever watchful lady lifeguard from Germany, Feli , ready to drag you back in case you drifted out too far.
Dinner on board was truly a feast to be remembered. Everything was cooked fresh there and then and the variety of dishes offered was really amazing, given the short time the crew had for preparation and presentation. The BBQ kept simmering on deck as we sipped one cocktail after another while waiting for the sun to set.
After dinner, the upper deck soon transformed into an upbeat dance floor and the crew saw to it that it was kept busy at all times, as the sun slowly started to set on the western horizon. I soon found out that there really was no better way to watch the day turn into night than onboard a sunset cruise in Langkawi.
The “Seasation” has now been sailing the waters of the Langkawi coast successfully for quite some time. Experiencing this three hour daily trip gives guests an in depth perspective of the Langkawi coastline. All the other boats operated by Tropical Charters too can be customized as per the passenger’s requirements. Small weddings, intimate cocktail parties, birthday celebrations, family get togethers to a romantic sunset sail to say the least. Lastly all the charters are great for children as well so the families can really have a blast without worrying about them.
