Getting from Danang to Hoi An is not only cheap and easy but there are several ways to cover this distance. My recommendation is to rent a bike and enjoy a spectacular road trip making stops en-route and savouring the natural beauty and simple Vietnamese lifestyle at your own pace.
Traveling from Da nang to Hoi An or Vica Versa on Bike
Bike rentals start from 100,000 VND ($4.3) per day and you can easily follow the awesome coastal road upto Hoi An. En-route you can visit popular beaches, marble mountains and gawk at the luxury resorts on either sides.
It’s an easy 1 hour drive but you could make an entire day trip out of this.
DIY Day Trip Danang to Hoi An
Enjoy coastal drive along spectacular beaches of Danang, check out Lady Buddha, Son tra peninsula and Marble mountains. Once you reach Hoi An, you can then enjoy the Ancient town as well – all in one day and spending under USD 10 total. Here’s a low down and where to go and what to see/do in one day travel from Danang to Hoi An.
Enjoy the beaches of Danang
Beaches of Danang are some of the cleanest and most scenic in Vietnam. I would highly recommend paying a visit to My Khe and Bai Rang.
My Khe is right in the center of the city so depending on your hotel location, this would most probably fall on your way when you travel to Hoi An. However, Bai Rang is bang on the opposite side , after crossing the fishing village (towards Lady Buddha). Its just a 20 min easy and scenic bike ride from My Khe and surely worth a visit. They serve mostly seafood on the menu at Bai Rang so if you are a meat lover, enjoy your meals elsewhere.
Check out the Marble Mountains
As soon as you start in the direction of Hoi An, there is a short detour on the right (Easy to spot) towards Marble mountain. Just 200 meter off the main road to Hoi An, Marble Mountains in Da Nang are a absolute must visit and fall under one of the top attractions in the city.
Locally termed as Ngu Hanh Son, this spot is famous for its breathtaking city views, pretty pagodas and interesting caves.
You can opt to walk up the mountain by paying a nominal entry fee of 15000 VND ($0.65) or buy an elevator ticket for 40000 VND one way. Its a really easy walk up some stairs and barely takes 5 mins. Â You can easily walk all around the complex without feeling tired, if you choose to come down using the elevator, you can decide later and buy tickets up the mountain as well.
There are many cost-effective and good restaurants opposite Gate no 1 and its a good place to grab a bite.
Stroll around Hoi An’s Old Town
Hoi An is just around 45 mins drive from Marble mountains. Well paved highways and clear sign boards will lead you to the city center of Hoi An. We used phone GPS to find our way but you won’t be lost even without it.
After spending 3 days in Hoi An, it seemed like I still didn’t get enough of this awesome artsy town so I made my way back to the old town for this day trip from Danang. You can never be bored of walking by the river or along the yellow hued old houses. Peeking into interesting shops and buying souvenirs was also on the charts this time around.
Our walk ended with a chilled fresh beer (Cost 5000 VND = $0.21) at one of the lovely bars on Hoi An’s pub street.
